I am utterly excited about these socks and the possibilities they bring! I want all my socks to be embroidered now. Sure, the sock market is already pretty varied, and you can get sunny side up eggs on your ankles in a bunch of stores. But how cool is it to embroider your own? Infinitely cool. And I’m sure your friends won’t mind getting a pair for Christmas. Ask them and let me know! If eggs aren’t your breakfast of choice, you can use the exact same technique to stitch avocados, by simply swapping the thread colors.

What you need:

  • socks
  • water-soluble embroidery stabilizer (Vlieseline Solufix)
  • white and yellow embroidery thread
  • needle
  • pen
  • scissors

Begin by cutting two small pieces of embroidery stabilizer, slightly larger than you want the eggs to be. This prevents the elastic fabric from stretching, creating a straight and stable surface for embroidery. Draw the contour of an egg – a smaller circle with a bigger irregular shape around it. Since the stabilizer is see-through, you can also copy an egg drawing. Repeat for the second egg, mirroring your design. Position the stabilizer on each sock, symmetrically.

Thread your needle and start embroidering the yolk. I stitched in circles for this part. Move on to the egg white and stitch until the entire contour is filled. Repeat for the second sock.

Soak the socks in cold water and watch the embroidery stabilizer disappearing before your eyes. It’s a miracle of the crafts world! The fabric dissolves in water, leaving you with a cool pair of socks.
