One of the best parts of having a DIY blog is that you get to play with kids crafts even when you’re over 30. This was my first time using fuse beads (aka perler or hama beads) and I find the process miraculous and all-around awesome. I was inspired by the ever-growing trend of desert plants as well the long, statement earrings everyone loves to wear these days. The result? A pair of summer-friendly, oversized cactus earrings that are sure to make any outfit pop!

What you need:

  • green fuse beads
  • rectangular pegboard
  • iron paper or baking paper
  • 2 jump rings
  • 2 earring hooks
  • (optional) jewelry pliers

DIY Cactus Earrings

Start by making a cactus shape with the beads on the pegboard. You can copy the design above or create something unique. Just keep in mind the final size of the cacti. When you’re satisfied with your shape, move on to the fusing! Place a piece of iron paper or baking paper over the pegboards and iron. When you can see the beads from underneath the paper, it means they’re done. Carefully remove from pegboard and turn on the other side. Place the baking paper and iron until you see the beads clearly.

Make a new design on the pegboard for the second cactus. Repeat the steps above.

Connect each cactus with an earring hook using a jump ring, making sure the cacti are mirrored. That’s it, you have new earrings!
