I’ve seen almost all of Wes Anderson’s movies twice, I bought the book and some posters, and I’m always on the lookout for things related to his fantastic universes. This year for my birthday, I wanted to have my party Wes themed – and while that didn’t happen after all, I had already started working on some printables… So here they are. They’d be perfect for a Wes Anderson movie night!

Member Zissou Society popcorn bag

Inspired by Steve Zissou, this is a simple blue popcorn bag with a club member badge in the lower side. To be served with nautical-inspired toppings, such as plain sea salt.

Download the template here and print it on an A3 piece of heavy paper. Cut, fold and glue together with a non-toxic glue. Allow to dry completely before placing the popcorn inside.

Note: Printing on regular, A4 paper will result in really tiny popcorn bags.

Watermelon is everyone’s summer obsession, and I’m no exception. There’s no other fruit that could compare in refreshment and cuteness, so last year I’ve made these watermelon shoes, while this year it’s time for watermelon coasters. They look absolutely lovely, and there’s no better way to serve watermelon based drinks, you have to admit! Moreover, you can make them in no time (if you don’t consider drying time, that is).

What you need:

  • cork trivet
  • paper
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • paint (red, green, black)
  • paintbrush
  • ruler
  • cutter

Start by drawing a circle that’s 2-3 cm smaller than the trivet. You will use this as a stencil to outline the watermelon peel. Paint the green part and let it dry completely. Remove the paper stencil and paint the red core of the watermelon. When that one is dry, use black paint to make the seeds, and let dry. Using a ruler and a cutter, cut the watermelon trivet into four equal slices, which will be your coasters.

Optionally, sandpaper the sides for a smooth finish. Enjoy your refreshments!

DIY shuttlecock lights garland

DIY shuttlecock lights garland - Kittenhood

Have you ever noticed how badminton shuttlecocks look like little lamps? As soon as I found this resemblance, I knew what I wanted to turn mine into: a lights garland! Taken away from their usual (often tacky) Christmas context, lights garlands are wonderful for backyard parties and even to decorate the house. This project takes about half an hour of your time, and minimal supplies:

How to:

Start by taking off the soft cap of a shuttlecock. Make a hole through the top of the shuttlecock skirt, and pass a light through it. Place the soft cap back, and continue with the next shuttlecock. When each light has its own cover, your garland is done!

I like how the textured shadow on the wall looks like, and how the different colors project colorful light. What do you think?

Everybody loves pizza, so why don’t we show our affection towards it more often? I don’t know. I decided I should take the matter into my own hands, and make something that says “I love you, pizza” without being too… cheesy. Since pizza slices are triangular and garland pieces are the same shape, I simply put two and two together: a pizza garland! It’s now hanging in the living room, just waiting for a pizza party to happen.

Download the free template and print it on thick paper/cardboard. The file has three pizza slices, so I printed six A4 sheets of paper to make this garland. Cut each diamond shape individually, and fold at the middle to form a pizza triangle.

Next, spread a long piece of string on a table and fold each triangle over it. Put a piece of double adhesive tape on each one, making sure you also cover the string. This is important for the triangles to stay in place when you hang them. If necessary, add another piece of tape towards the pointy end of the triangle. Commence pizza party.
