I don’t know what it is about rum, but it goes so well with so many things! You can throw a teaspoon in your tea cup to make it instantly more warming. Or you can put in cake – that’s not something you can do with just any type of booze! Plus it’s got that duality – in summer, it’s perfect for chilled Mojitos and Cuba Libre; in colder months, it makes amazing grogs from just about any hot liquid. There’s proof below, in the form of two variations of the same cocktail, which I adapted from a tiny vintage book called “The Home Bar”.

Now, there’s nothing complicated about these drinks. You can easily make them at the same time, only replacing the main liquid. So if you’re having a party or bonfire these days, you can whip these up in no time and still give the impression that you’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest. Oh, and the ingredients are totally at hand.
